An 84 year old man who was visibly drunk took to the road in his wheelchair on Saturday evening in the Southern Norwegian town of Porsgrunn. After passing through a tunnel of 184 metres he decided to take the same tunnel again on his way back and was stopped by two motorists who then called the police. He was arrested for driving the wrong way down a highway in his electric wheelchair.
The elderly person’s driving license was confiscated and police are trying to find a way to revoke the person’s license since there is currently no law which governs the use of wheelchairs on motorways. However, police officers are certain that the old man will definitely have to pay a fine since highways are off-limits for pedestrians and wheelchairs.
