Something really strange occurred during the international Scrabble championship which took place between the 12th and the 16th October in Poland. Quite surprisingly, a tile disappeared during a match between Edward Martin from Britain and a Thai competitor, Chollapat Itthi-Aree.
When both participants realised that a ‘G’ tile was missing, the event coordinator, Brian Dede had to intervene. First, they decided to look on the playing table without any success. Then, they looked under the table. With little success again, the players were even asked to empty their pockets. Despite turning their pockets inside out, the ‘G’ tile was not to be found.
With little options left, the officials eventually had to add another ‘G’ tile to the game to allow the match to proceed. The international event was really one to remember for the two participants, although they might not find the funny side of the story.
