London’s Haunted Art Gallery Unveils Terrifying Cursed Objects
London is set to host a unique and spine-chilling experience this Halloween as Kraken Rum introduces a haunted art gallery showcasing a collection of some of the most cursed artworks and objects in the United Kingdom. The eerie exhibition, known as Screamfest: House of Curses, will be housed at the Vinyl Factory in the vibrant neighborhood of Soho from October 31 to November 2.
Curated by the distinguished art historian, Ruth Millington, the House of Curses features six distinct exhibits, each delving into macabre themes such as ‘Cursed Creatures’, ‘Possessed Children’, ‘Internet Lore’, ‘Ghost’, ‘Skeleton’, and ‘Dolls’. Among the spine-tingling highlights are haunted projector slides sourced from the Birmingham & Midlands Institute and the infamous ‘Grace Doll’, often dubbed as the UK’s equivalent of the notorious Annabelle doll, generously contributed by paranormal investigator Danny Moss.
The gallery also hosts an array of other chilling artifacts, including an 18th-century kit for slaying vampires and peculiar creatures like a mermaid and a basilisk on loan from the Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities. Notably, the ‘Possessed Children’ section features ‘The Crying Boy’, a widely circulated print of a painting by Giovanni Bragolin that was linked to numerous house fires across the UK during the 1970s and 1980s.
A must-see piece is ‘The Unknown Girl’, lent by the London Bridge Experience, which gained viral attention in 2023 for its recurrent appearances in a UK charity shop. Visitors to this particular exhibit are required to sign a waiver due to its unsettling nature.
Ruth Millington expressed the intensity of the exhibition, emphasizing the amalgamation of mythical legends like the Kraken with real-life haunted objects that have evoked fear in both owners and creators. She described the gallery as a daring venture not suited for the faint-hearted, encapsulating centuries-old themes of hauntings, death, and horror in a single, high-risk showcase for this Halloween season.
This initiative follows Kraken Rum’s previous Halloween event, a horror bar in London where drink prices fluctuated based on visitors’ heart rates, showcasing the brand’s commitment to immersive and unconventional experiences. The House of Curses promises a journey through the darker realms of art and history, offering a rare opportunity to encounter cursed objects firsthand.
As the art world collides with the supernatural, the haunted art gallery in London stands as a testament to the enduring allure of the mysterious and the macabre, inviting brave souls to explore the chilling depths of the unknown.
