StrangeForms Festival has a rich history dating back to its inception in 2014. Stewart Ramsay, the mastermind behind the festival, drew inspiration from his experience at ArcTanGent and decided to create his own event. With the support of friends and collaborators, the first edition took place at Wharf Chambers in Leeds, featuring a diverse lineup of post-rock, post-metal, and math-rock bands.
The inaugural year saw an eclectic mix of performances, from the gloomy drone/doom sounds of SUNWOLF to the energetic post/math rock of VASA. Local talents like ENVOYS and LOST IN THE RIOTS graced the stage, setting the tone for a weekend filled with music and camaraderie. Headlined by instrumental prog rockers THE FIERCE AND THE DEAD, the event left a lasting impression on attendees.
As the festival evolved, it continued to attract both new and returning acts, becoming a staple in the post-rock scene. Bands like TIDINGS and TOMORROW WE SAIL captivated audiences with their emotive performances, while ALPHA MALE TEA PARTY and CLEFT showcased their technical prowess in the realm of math-rock.
Over the years, StrangeForms Festival grew in popularity, drawing bands from different genres and regions. The transition to a larger venue at the Brudenell Social Club marked a new chapter for the event, signaling its expansion and appeal to a broader audience. Despite challenges and poignant moments, such as supporting musicians battling cancer, the festival persevered, maintaining its ethos of celebrating innovative music and fostering a sense of community.

With each edition, StrangeForms Festival continued to push boundaries and showcase emerging talent alongside established acts. The event’s success can be attributed to a dedicated team, loyal supporters, and a vibrant music scene that embraces diversity and creativity. As the festival looks ahead to future editions, it remains a testament to the enduring spirit of independent music and the power of live performances to connect artists and audiences in meaningful ways.
