A Sarnia woman has been sentenced to three months in jail for thefts from local stores and assaulting a loss-prevention officer by biting. The incident occurred at a No Frills store on Exmouth Street, where the officer confronted Jerica Trowbridge, 30, after items went missing from her cart. Trowbridge also committed thefts at a gas station and the LCBO on Quinn Drive, stealing liquor multiple times.
Assistant Crown attorney Michael Donald emphasized the severity of biting, stating it can lead to infection and cause bodily harm. Justice Krista Lynn Leszczynski echoed the concern, highlighting the distress it caused the victim. Trowbridge’s defense lawyer, Robert McFadden, attributed her actions to an addiction to opioids, noting her significant improvement since receiving treatment while in custody.
Trowbridge expressed remorse for her actions, acknowledging the need for change and rehabilitation. Despite her apology, Donald emphasized that her addiction seemed to outweigh the consequences, as she continued to steal even after being caught. The court imposed a ban on Trowbridge from all LCBO establishments in Sarnia and Lambton County for a year and a half following her release.
