Kidnapped Boy from ‘Unsolved Mysteries’ Found Safe After 7 Years

A child who was the subject of a Netflix show, “Unsolved Mysteries,” has been discovered safe after disappearing for over seven years. The boy, now 14 years old, vanished in November 2017, allegedly taken by his mother, Rabia Khalid, shortly after his seventh birthday in Atlanta, Georgia. The breakthrough came when the teenager was found in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, around 14.5 miles from Denver, following a trespassing incident on February 23.

Rabia Khalid, who did not have legal custody of the child at the time of the abduction, was apprehended with another individual, Elliot Blake Bourgeois, and both face charges including Second Degree Kidnapping, Forgery, Identity Theft, Providing False Information to Authorities, and Trespassing. Each has a $1 million bond, with details about their relationship undisclosed by authorities.

The rescue unfolded when police responded to a report of unauthorized entry into a vacant property, where they encountered the missing boy and another child. Khalid and Bourgeois claimed association with the property’s realtor, providing false information that unraveled during a four-hour verification process, ultimately leading to Khalid’s arrest due to an outstanding kidnapping warrant.

The child’s disappearance occurred shortly after Khalid relocated from New Orleans to Atlanta, with the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children listing her as the suspected abductor. A felony warrant was issued for Khalid in 2020, as per NCMEC records.

The family expressed immense joy at the boy’s recovery, acknowledging the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for its dedication in resolving the case while requesting privacy as they reunite and heal. The reunion process is ongoing as they strive to move forward as a united family.

The child’s abduction was showcased in an episode of “Unsolved Mysteries,” a Netflix series delving into unresolved cases such as murders and conspiracies. In Volume 3, Episode 9, titled “Abducted by a Parent,” the boy’s father shared insights into his relationship with Khalid, the circumstances of their meeting, and the abduction itself. This episode aired in November 2022, preceding the fifth anniversary of the disappearance.
