The Bunny Man is an urban legend originating from two bizarre incidents in Virginia during 1970. The stories feature a man dressed in a bunny costume attacking people with an axe or hatchet. Most encounters are linked to a location known as Bunny Man Bridge.
In the first incident, a couple parked their car in a field on Guinea Road. Suddenly, a man with long bunny ears appeared from the bushes, shouting about private property. He hurled a hatchet through their car window and fled, leaving them shaken but unharmed.
Just days later, a security guard encountered a similar figure on Halloween night. This time, the man wore a gray, black, and white bunny costume and began chopping at a porch post with a long-handled axe. He threatened the guard, warning him to stay away, and then disappeared into the woods before help arrived.
The police received numerous reports of sightings following these events. Many people claimed to have seen the Bunny Man, with some even stating he had eaten a cat. While many leads were dismissed as pranks, one individual identified themselves as the "Axe Man," suggesting a confrontation about property damage.
The legend has since morphed into various retellings, with over 54 documented variations. Some versions stretch the plot to include murder, although these claims are not supported by the original accounts. A popular online version even describes the Bunny Man as an escaped convict linked to supernatural occurrences.
