Verdala Palace has had a long and varied history since its construction in 1586. Initially built as a hunting lodge, it evolved into a palace that would host numerous royals and dignitaries.
During its early years, the palace served as a residence for the British governor. It was later repurposed for various uses, such as a military prison during the French blockade and a silk factory under British rule. After falling into disrepair, it was restored in the 1850s and has since functioned as the summer residence of the President of Malta.
The palace is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman known as the "blue Lady." According to accounts, she was reportedly a niece of Grand Master de Rohan. Unhappy about an arranged marriage, she took her own life by jumping from her bedroom balcony. Her spirit is believed to wander the palace, dressed in the blue wedding gown she wore at the time of her death.
Today, Verdala Palace remains largely closed to the public, with the exception of an annual charity event. Its legacy continues as a site of both historical significance and ghostly intrigue.
