In a remarkable turn of events, a young boy who had been missing for over seven years after a high-profile kidnapping case was found safe, thanks to a trespass call that led to his rescue. Abdul Aziz Khan, now 14 years old, was recovered by officials from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado. His disappearance had garnered national attention and was even featured on Netflix’s “Unsolved Mysteries.”
Abdul Aziz Khan was abducted in 2017 by his non-custodial mother, Rabia Khalid, and her new husband, Elliot Blake Bourgeois, sparking a bitter custody battle with his father, Abdul. Khalid fled with Aziz after failing to appear for a custody hearing in Atlanta, eventually leading to a multi-state search by the U.S. Marshals Service.
Despite the distance separating them, Abdul made every effort to spend time with Aziz, adjusting his work schedule to ensure frequent visits. Khalid’s actions indicated she was likely to lose custody of Aziz, prompting her to flee with the child, resulting in a prolonged legal dispute between the parents.
After years of searching across multiple states, a breakthrough occurred when deputies responded to a burglary call at a vacant home in Colorado. There, they discovered Khalid and Bourgeois, who falsely claimed to be associated with the property. Further investigation revealed Khalid’s active kidnapping warrant, leading to their arrest.
The swift actions of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office in unraveling the suspects’ deceit resulted in Aziz’s safe recovery. Khalid and Bourgeois now face charges related to kidnapping, forgery, and providing false information to authorities, with a preliminary hearing scheduled for later this month.
Following his rescue, Aziz, along with another child found at the scene, was placed in protective custody. Sheriff Darren Weekly expressed his team’s commitment to supporting Aziz’s family through the healing process, acknowledging the challenges they face in reuniting and moving forward.
The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) played a crucial role in Aziz’s recovery, emphasizing the importance of public attention in family abduction cases. John Bischoff III from NCMEC expressed gratitude for Aziz’s safe return and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies in resolving the case.
As the investigation continues, authorities remain dedicated to gathering additional information to bring closure to this long-standing mystery. The remarkable rescue of Abdul Aziz Khan serves as a testament to the unwavering commitment of law enforcement in safeguarding the vulnerable and seeking justice, offering hope and healing to families impacted by such tragedies.
