Previously, it was called Stockholm Globe Arena and Ericsson Globe. It is the second largest spherical structure worldwide after the Las Vegas Sphere, having a diameter of 110 meters.
Globen was inaugurated on 19 February 1989 after a construction period of less than three years. The arena's seating capacity varies, accommodating 16,000 spectators for concerts and 13,850 for ice hockey matches. The venue has also hosted a variety of significant events, including the Ice Hockey World Championships and the Eurovision Song Contest.
In 2021, the arena was renamed in honor of musician Avicii, who passed away in 2018. The renaming was marked by a special performance by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, highlighting the arena's connection to music.
Recent upgrades and modernization efforts began in 2024, with a $92 million investment aimed at enhancing the arena’s facilities. This modernization included the introduction of a retractable acoustic ceiling and premium hospitality spaces.
